McKinney might be the most wedding-dense town in Collin County, and it earns it honestly. The historic downtown square gives you century-old brick and storefront light, Craig Ranch gives you a purpose-built chapel and ballroom campus, and the countryside north of Highway 380 fills in with estates and barns. As a wedding photographer, I treat McKinney as three different towns wearing one name, because each of those settings asks for a different plan.

What they share is Texas light. McKinney sunsets land over open ground west of the square, and the best portraits of the day almost always happen in the last hour before it. My job is to build your day so that hour is not spent waiting on a shuttle.

Where McKinney couples get married

Aristide McKinney at Craig Ranch is the flagship: an on-site chapel with a raised altar, two ballrooms, and capacity for 325 guests. A photographer detail worth knowing: because it has two ballrooms, Aristide can host two weddings in one day, so I always confirm which side of the property we have and when. My full Aristide photographer guide covers the light room by room.

Downtown, Historic 512 puts your reception inside the square itself, steps from the courthouse, which makes sunset portraits on the square almost automatic. And because McKinney sits at the eastern edge of the estate belt, plenty of couples pair a McKinney church or square ceremony with an estate reception nearby. My DFW wedding venue guides map the whole territory.

Working the square

The McKinney square rewards photographers who scout it at the exact hour of the ceremony, not at noon. Storefront glass throws reflected warm light onto the sidewalks late in the day, and the alleys off Louisiana and Virginia Streets hold shade for portraits even in July. When couples ask whether to schedule a first look, McKinney is often the place I recommend one, because it lets us claim the square before dinner instead of during it.

If you are still building your day, start with my hour by hour wedding timeline guide and the sunset table in the venue hub. Ceremony start at about 75 minutes before sunset is the rule I plan around all across North Texas.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding photographer cost in McKinney, TX?

DFW full-service wedding photography generally runs between about $2,500 and $5,000. My collections start at $5,200 for 8 hours with one photographer; the most-booked collection for Collin County estate weddings is ESTATE at $6,000 with two photographers. All pricing is published on my pricing page.

Do you photograph at Aristide McKinney?

Yes, and I maintain a dedicated photographer guide for Aristide McKinney covering the chapel, both ballrooms, and the string-light courtyard. It is one of the most photogenic venue campuses in Collin County.

Can we do portraits on the historic McKinney square?

Absolutely. The square is one of my favorite portrait settings in DFW, and I plan your timeline so we hit it in the best light, usually the hour before sunset. A first look often makes this much easier on the schedule.

Do you travel beyond McKinney?

Yes. I am based in Denton and photograph across the whole DFW estate belt, including Frisco, Prosper, Celina, and the countryside north of Highway 380. There is no travel fee anywhere in DFW.
