When Do You Get Your Wedding Photos Back?

You get sneak peeks in 1 to 2 weeks and your full wedding gallery in 8 to 12 weeks. If you are on my Heritage package, the album arrives 2 to 4 weeks after the full gallery is delivered. The gallery itself is 600 to 900 images, each one finished in either color or black and white, whichever I think serves it best, with a print release plus unlimited sharing rights, and it stays live for 3 years. Those are the numbers on my pricing page and they are the same numbers I quote at a consultation.

You plan for a year and a half, the day lasts about eleven hours, and then you are in a car at midnight asking the person you just married when the photos will be ready. I have shot 350+ weddings since my first one in November 2019, second shooting at the White Sparrow Barn, and I get that question during the reception more often than any other question I get all night.

The gallery is not slow because it is sitting in a queue; it is slow because I edit every single frame of it myself, and 8 to 12 weeks is what that honestly takes at about 60 weddings a year.

What happens to my photos the night of the wedding?

They get backed up immediately, the same night, before I sleep.

As soon as I get home, everything from that day exists on 2 SD cards, 2 separate hard drives, and 2 separate cloud services. Six copies across three kinds of storage, two of which are not in my house. That is not a thing I do on important weddings. It is what happens after every wedding, including the ones where I get home at 1AM and would much rather go to bed.

And I offer a lifetime guarantee on your photos.

When do you get the sneak peeks?

1 to 2 weeks.

Sneak peeks are fully edited to the same standard as the rest of your gallery, not quick exports. They are a preview of the story rather than the whole thing, which is deliberate, because the full gallery reveal is better when you have not already seen the best forty frames.

One note that is easy to miss: if you added overtime on the wedding day, that has to be settled before I deliver anything, and that includes sneak peeks. It is in the contract and it is the only thing that delays this step.

Why does a wedding gallery take 8 to 12 weeks?

Because I shoot about 6,000 frames at a wedding and I go through all of them myself.

The cull comes first, then the edit, and the edit is where the time actually goes. I am matching color across a getting-ready room, a ceremony under whatever light the ceremony had, portraits at sunset, and a reception lit by flash. Those are four completely different lighting situations inside one gallery, and the whole point of my editing is true-to-life color; I want you looking at these in 50 years and seeing exactly how the day looked, not how 2026 looked.

I also do not outsource any of it. Every frame in your gallery went through me, including every frame a second photographer shot.

So 8 to 12 weeks is not padding. It is the honest number for one person editing 60 weddings a year, and my busiest months by a wide margin are May and October.

What if my gallery lands at week 12 instead of week 8?

It is busy season, or something big happened in my life. Those are the only two reasons a gallery lands at the far end of the range, and neither of them is that I forgot about you. If your wedding was in October and there are three October weddings ahead of yours, you are looking at the back half of that window, and that is normal and it is why the range exists at all.

I have never delivered a gallery late. Not once. BUT, I would rather tell you the range honestly up front than promise you week 6 and spend the back half of the fall apologizing to people.

How many photos do you get from a wedding?

600 to 900 images, which is roughly 5 to 10% of about 6,000 frames shot.

The rest are not being withheld. They are blinks, motor-drive duplicates, the frame where somebody’s arm is in the way, and the four near-identical versions of the first dance where one is clearly the best. Handing you all 6,000 would not be generous, it would just move my job onto your laptop.

And each image is finished in either color or black and white. That is an artistic call I make frame by frame, based on the light and the moment, so every photo in your gallery arrives already finished the way I think it reads best.

What rights do I have to my wedding photos?

You get a print release plus unlimited sharing rights. Print them anywhere you want, at any size, through any lab. Post them wherever. Send the entire gallery to your family.

Your gallery stays live for 3 years. The one thing I will ask you to do is download the full-resolution files early and put them somewhere that belongs to you. Do it the week you get the link and then stop thinking about it 馃檪

When do the film scans come back?

If you are on Legacy or Heritage, there is film in your gallery, and the scans usually land a few weeks ahead of the full digital gallery.

I shoot it on a Contax 645 with Portra 400, in both 35mm and 120, at 16 frames per roll on the medium format, and it gets developed at Goodman Film Lab in Addison. Film is the part of your gallery where I slowed all the way down.

Film is included in both Legacy at $6,800 and Heritage at $9,000, and it is a $400 a-la-carte line for 10 rolls. The package breakdown has the rest of it.

When does the Heritage album arrive?

2 to 4 weeks after the full gallery is delivered.

The design is a mix of my selects and your input. I am not going to hand you 900 images and ask you to build a book, and I am also not going to hand you a finished album and tell you it is done. I put the spreads together, you tell me what is missing, and there are three revision rounds in that process.

Three rounds is more than most couples use. It is there for the case where your grandmother is on one spread and should be on two, which is a real conversation I have had and a completely reasonable ask. There is a longer post on how the album itself is made if you want the object rather than the timeline.

Can I get my wedding photos faster?

Sometimes. Rush delivery is case by case and there is no published fee for it, because it depends entirely on where your wedding sits in the season and what you actually need.

The thing that helps most is telling me before the wedding rather than after. If you have a real deadline, a print for a family member, an anniversary, anything with a date attached, say it at the consultation and I will know it is coming when I plan the season. Asking in week 9 is a much harder conversation than asking in month three.

And for most couples the sneak peeks at 1 to 2 weeks handle the urge entirely.

Wedding photo delivery questions I get asked

How long does it take to get wedding photos back?

From me, sneak peeks arrive in 1 to 2 weeks and the full gallery in 8 to 12 weeks. The Heritage album comes 2 to 4 weeks after the full gallery is delivered. A gallery landing at the far end of that range usually means your wedding fell in busy season, which for me is May and October.

How many photos do you get from a wedding photographer?

I deliver 600 to 900 images from a wedding, which is about 5 to 10% of the roughly 6,000 frames I shoot. Each of those images is finished in color or black and white, whichever suits the frame, and I make that call for every one myself.

How long does a wedding photographer keep your online gallery?

Mine stays live for 3 years. You have a print release plus unlimited sharing rights for the whole time, so you can print anywhere and post anywhere. Download the full resolution files the week you get the link and store them somewhere that is yours, so the 3 year window never matters.

Can you get your wedding photos faster than 8 weeks?

Rush delivery is handled case by case and there is no set fee, because it depends on the season and on what the deadline actually is. The best thing you can do is tell your photographer about a real deadline before the wedding rather than after, so it gets built into the editing schedule from the start.

How do wedding photographers back up your photos?

Mine are backed up the same night. As soon as I get home from a wedding, every file exists on 2 SD cards, 2 separate hard drives and 2 separate cloud services, so there are six copies in three kinds of storage before I sleep. I offer a lifetime guarantee on the photos on top of that.

What I would tell you across the table

Eight to twelve weeks feels enormous in week two and completely irrelevant a year later.

What I would not do is book a photographer who will not give you a range in weeks. Ask for it, ask how many photos, ask what your sharing rights are, and ask how they back up the cards the night of. Four questions and you will learn everything you need to know.

Sending the gallery link is genuinely my favorite email to write all year!!! If you want to look at dates, let me know. If not then no worries!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Stay tuned for more updates!
